How do I fully restore my Dell Inspiron 2200?
I’m having problems with viruses, adware, and trojans, so I need to restore my computer to factory settings. I already backed my files on 2 flash drives. If anyone can help me that would be great. If possible, I need detailed instructions, I’m not too good with computers. And I have the software and Windows XP CD’s ready to install after I restore the computer. Thanks in advance!

Ok i have a dell desktop with a “Windows XP Reinstallation CD” (w/ service pack 2) and i want to know if i can use it on a dell inspiron laptop. the laptop is having bluescreen errors at log in, so i want to do an XP repair install, can i use this cd even though it came with the desktop?
im worried about it have different drivers
This has been my experience.
When you want to buy the computer, you get to speak with a nice American in Texas or Oklahoma who is more than happy to take your money.
Once they have your money and you need customer service or support, you are always transferred out of the USA to another country where the people could care less about your problem.
Is it me or do you have the same experiences with Dell?
I bought my first Dell in 1998 and things were wayyyy different back then.
I wanted to get a new Dell laptop but I dont have the money to pay it all on the spot. I saw that the “Dell Preferred Plan/Program” lets you pay a certain amount per month for x number of years. How does that program actually work? Are there any no-no’s or advantages or disadvantages? Are there any hidden -anything- that I should know about? Any experiences?
Or if you dont have any experience with it, is there any advice?
i know people get technician from india most of the time, and did you know there are also technician from philippines? i just want your feedback. by the way, i am a Dell technician from Phil. what can you say bout the people in philippines? because ive notice that the language barrier is an issue in inian agents.
We bought a new Dell and when I type keywords into my browser, I get this Dell search engine powered by google. Only, it doesn’t find anything that google finds. It’s really not a good search engine. How can I set up my computer to use another search engine when performing keyword searches without having to go to google, yahoo or msn first?
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and I looked it up on Dell’s website of how to do it. They say to use the Dell Restore by Symantec but I tried hitting the CTRL + F11 on startup and it doesn’t work. I think I may have uninstalled the Symantec programs. How do I go about restoring my laptop to the day I got it? By the way, I don’t have an XP Pro disc, otherwise I would manually reinstall Windows.
It didn’t come with a restore CD either. Dell’s too cheap, they said to use the software that was installed on my laptop.
I go to Command Prompt, type “format c:”, “Y” yes proceed with the format, and now it says “Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)”
What are “opened handles” and what is dismounting?
How can I format my hard drive?
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 Notebook computer, and have here two CDs that came with the computer (I am not sure if there are any more “important” ones laying around somewhere). One is the Application CD, the other is the Drivers, Utilities, and Applications CD. Which one has the XP Operating System in it? Is it in a different CD do you think?
I forgot to mention that when I press “y”es to dismount the hard drive, it says that it cannot and then it won’t let me format the drive.
I got a trojan horse virus on my computer last week that was playing around with my internet connection. AVG detected the virus. I ran the reovery CD to do the system restore to get it back to the original operating state (hopefully this wiped out all the bad stuff?). Since then, the machine works great, but Windows XP doesn’t detect the modem drivers. I’ve tried them all: Unplugging, rebooting, going into the device manager and right clicking on the drivers, and I even called Dell to help me using the drivers utility CD, that did not even work. I even had the internet company come out to check and they could not get the modem to be recognized. They did tell me that the modem is working just fine, but my computer can’t detect the modem drivers. I am using friend’s computer to access internet, but this is driving me crazy. Please help!
The machine is a Dell XPS 400 if that helps
The modem was working fine before doing the system restore
I’m having trouble with my dell windows xp home edition that I bought last year, It keeps saying that my computer is running low on virtual memory and I have 0% space left. I tried every clean up thing there is. Is there anyway to have your computer wiped so its just like it was when you started the computer for the first time? Thanx.
