Its a Dell E520. The case is a NZXT Nemesis. I’m aware that the NZXT case only takes ATX motherboards. But I was planning on doing some modifications to it, like drilling new holes and re- tappind them and so on. Will I be able to use the lights that come with the gaming case? Please help! Thanks in advance!
I notice that prices are dropping more and more. I know nothing about building my own computer and am looking for a gaming system. I need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse too. However, I am on a budget as well. The payment plans offered by companies like Dell are nice, but is it worth it?
I’ve heard that this dell only supports processors with 100MHz front side bus and I’ve also heard that updating the BIOS might help. I just want as much speed as I can get.
I am running ubuntu on this PC and was hoping for a decent speed increase so I could get an N64 emulator up to full speed maybe. Is this even doable?
This processor has a front side bus of 100MHz http://www.weirdstuff.com/cgi-bin/item/13247 Would that work with my computer? Also, right now I have 128mb of RAM. Would adding more ram speed up my computer sufficiently and would it help out my emulation capability.
I’ve tried it in a virtual pc on my dell computer and it seems to work ok. I just don’t know if it will work on a clean install.
In response to all your answers. I gave it a try anyway and no error came up. I now have vista on my dell. The only problem is that windows interprets my pc as a toshiba but that hasn’t affected me at all. So thanks for your opinions anyway!
The HD connection on my new Dell desktop is completely different than my old HD. Can I use my old HD on my new pc? It’s a 250gig HD with lots of needed data, so I don’t want to toss it and get a new Dell HD.
My new system uses a SATA hard drive, and my old hardrive is an ATA. I have a cable that goes to by DVD player, but I have 2 DVD players so I can’t tap into it, I don’t think. I don’t really want to go external.
I currently use my girlfriends Dell computer with Windows XP and not a day goes by that the computer does not freeze up on me at least 3 or 4 times. Other Dell computers I have used in the past for work have also given me quite a few problems. I am used to using Apple computers and never have problems with them. Why are Dell and Windows XP so poorly designed?
My house was hit by lightning. Agent Robert of the Geek Squad thinks I need a new telephone dial up modem. I contacted Dell sales and customer support. Three times they sent me the wrong part, actually the same wrong part, three times. I cannot get past the sales people or the customer service people. No one will let me talk to a supervisor. They claim that they do not know how to contact the President of Dell.
These “English as a second language” people are about to make me crazy!
I just recentley had a serious virus on my dell desktop computer. I now would like to delete programs such as aim and myspace i.m etc. from my computer. How do I do this? I dont want to just delete the shortcut, I want to delete it completley off of my computer. Help Please!!
I just bought a brand new pc from Dell, its a dell inspiron. The yahoo pages work fine, but when i get to ebay, the pictures take forever to load. I did not have the problem with my last dell, which was windows xp. Is there something i need to do to make it work faster? The pages sometimes take a long time to load also using internet explore.
I just bought a used Dell Dimension 5150 tower from someone that did not come with a mouse or keyboard. I went to plug in my mouse and keyboard and there is no slot for it. When I went to the store there was a universal mouse and keyboard but it has the same connectors as the ones I already have. So how or where do you connect these or do you need some kind of adapter and plug it into the USB?
I would like to exchange an older computer bought from Dell. I know that Dell used to have a program for this that included refurbishing the old machines (for impoverished individuals/families) and also provided rewards for loyal customers. I googled the program and searched throughout Dell’s website, but I can’t find anything except expired websites (regarding the Exchange Program) and Dell’s Recycling program, which is a different thing.
I’d like for my computer to be refurbished so that somebody who needs it can get one. I’m aware that other programs are available, but Dell seems to make it very easy with free pickup and very little hassle for the customer. So does Dell have a program like this anymore, or do they simply shred every used computer they’re given? Did they also eliminate rewarding customers for giving old machines back?
Thanks in advance.
I have heard that Dell hardware is kinda selective and is only compatible with other Dell Hardware. I want to start building my own computers, but think maybe buying a new Dell and adding to it piece by piece is a good place to start before I build one from scratch. Do you agree? And is it possible to add other-party hardware like a GeForce video card to a Dell machine? Thanks a lot.
I just bought a new desktop from Dell and I am trying to find the brand and model of the Motherboard they used.
The specifications are: Dell Vostro 410
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
PC2 6400 800MHz DDR2 memory
Seagate 320Gib Hard drive
Geforce 8800 GT
This is the basic break down, but I have yet to know the exact details of the motherboard.
I have an old Windows 98 Dell pc, which I am in the process of hooking up for my daughter. I am trying to clear everything out and restore it to it’s original state almost like it came right out of the box. I have no restore software that I can find (like the old Compaq days), so I would like to know how I can do it from the Dell computer itself. Please help!!!!
I have a Dell Precision 380 computer with an internal speaker as well as an external speaker sitting on my desk. I would like to be able to have music only coming solely through my external speaker however I have not been able to turn off the internal speaker without turning off sound altogether. How do I control the internal speaker?
I’ve added hard drives to other computers, so I already have the jumper set. But adding in a second hard drive to this dell is proving to be quite difficult. I took out the cable that was in it and added a cable the supports 2 drives, and then I had a spare power cord in there that I connected, but nothing happened. It just froze at that beginning dell screen. How does one upgrade?
It’s Windows XP and the second HD would be around 20 gigs, just like the first.
I have a dell dimension 2400 series which recently had a virus. I reformated my computer and installed all the drivers which I had done several times before. But now in the device manager it says that I don’t have the ethernet controller driver and I can’t connect to the internet…please help. Give me the link to where I can download it.
I want to start from scratch deleting everything having the computer the way I got it. I can do it with my toshiba, but for some reason it is far more difficult with a dell, and the book don’t tell me how. Can someone help me. Please
I do have the disk, however it does not work the way I want it to. All it does is take me to the last good configuration. The computer comes up just fine, but it is slow and always freezes. It take so much patience to even get on it.
I just bought a Dell Dimension 5150 tower for my daughter and I went to connect it to a dial up connection and the computer has no modem. A.)Can I download a modem driver, and from where? B.)Can I download it on my current computer and transfer it somehow to my daughters being that hers can’t go online?
I just got a brand new dell inspiron 530 and it is already barely working. Whenever I ask it to complete any simple task such as x out of something or go back to the previous web site, it says “not responding.” Now, whenever I boot it up a black screen comes up and says “diskette drive 0 seek failure.” Is there any way to fix this?
I have a Dell Dimension desktop that has become faulty with the sound. Upon powering up, the sound works fine. However, after a while it will just simply go out. If I restart the computer, it works again for a little while and then does the same thing again, just stops working. Is this a software or virus problem within the computer or do I need a new sound card, or something of that sort?
I have a Dell computer that I am having problems with. I had the same problem once before and had to call Dell. It took a very long time to finally get someone to help me. He told me to hold down the control button and press another button several time until the screen comes up I need. I have forgotten what the second button is and do not want to have to call Dell back. Has anyone ever had to do this before without the discs? If so please tell me what the second button is!!!!!
I need to remove the hard drive from my Dell Dimension 4700. When I went on the Dell support web site they gave detailed instructions on removing it but I do not know how to remove what appears to be the side panel . There are no screws there.
Alfred: slid the cover latch but the side still does not release
My Dell computer has a lot of problems, the LCD Monitor makes a buzzing noise, the hard-disk makes a very loud rattling noise and the volume goes up & down at random.
My warranty is for 3 years and I don’t know how to use it. Can anyone advise me how to use it, and if I can use it for the problems?
It’s a Dell Demension 2400 and I brought it to a local computer shop, they told me it’s quirky and 400.00 to replace the motherboard. They installed a new power supply a week ago and I haven’t had a problem until now. Now it doesnt turn on sometimes and It won’t boot WINDOWS XP if it does turn on. Can this really be a motherboard problem? It just locks up almost right after startup. What r the chances it is a motherboard? How much can expect to spend on this repair? Who can you really trust with this kind of problem? I live in Sussex County, NJ in the US. Help me if you can, Thanks…..Ed
Basically I own two Dell computers. One has Vista Business, the other has Vista Home Basic. Can I use the disc that Dell provided to install Vista Business on the computer with Home Basic? It would save me a bit of money if that were possible because Vista Business is much better quality then Basic. I don’t want to mess up the computer though so please help!
I would basically be using this for running my two businesses (both home distributor businesses), using the Internet, downloading information, burning CDs/DVDs, working with photos, and word processing. How much memory is good for someone who is using a Dell strictly in a home application? Is 4GB too much?
I have a Dell Dimension 2400, and I am looking to move it onto a new case, since the dell one fell completely apart. I unscrew all of the screws that I see holding the motherboard on the regular case, but there is still one corner that refuses to come off. I tried to remove the other side of the case to get it out, but that part of the case is unmovable, I took all of the other things out of the case as well, and that one part of the motherboard refuses to budge.
I have this Old Dell Dimension 4700 desktop and i have this power cord but i think it goes to a monitor or some other desktop because when i turn it on it a red light comes on in one of the fans on the back. Does anyone think there is a problem with my power supply unit or can i just buy a Universal power cord for my computer at best buy or something.
I got an old dell computer but i have no idea what kind it is. i want to know what brand it is so i can upgrade it. it opens up like a book, and its black, inside the case there is a DATECH Cpu and a rage grapgics card its missing some ram chips, can some one tell me how i find what kind of dell it is so i can find the right information about it. please and thank you.
I’m replacing the PC fan in a Dell Dimension C521, but can’t find a fan online that is the same as the one I’ve taken out. The old fan is a San Ace 92 model # 9G0912P2G041. Was wondering what other fan would be basically the same as this one, or would work better for the type of computer?
I have a Dell Dimension C521. It’s an entry-level PC with a space saving design and an AMD Sempron Processor 3400 + 1.80 GHz and 958 MB. It’s running Vista Basic and it’s awful – it keeps freezing and the graphics keep messing up. It’s actually running worse than XP did on my old computer.
Can I upgrade the processor in this thing and make it run better? Ideally I’d get a Core2Duo but if that’s not possible or too expensive I’d like something else. Would upgrading the processor involve wiping all the files and programs?
I am trying to put my dell into a new case but am having trouble removing the motherboard. All the screws are off but somehow it won’t budge. The problem lies in the back of the computer where you plug everything into the motherboard. I can’t figure out how to dislodge the MOBO from the back of the case. I have removed all the screws that I can see.
My husband’s desktop Dell 4600 PC needs the motherboard replaced in it, is this something we can do ourselves? I had it at a technicians place, but Dell is giving him the “run-a-round” about getting the part for him. So he don’t want to fix it now. How can we fix this problem, short of buying a new computer. We really can’t afford a new one right now. Would a different brand motherboard work? Can we do the work ourselves? How hard is it? Any and all information would be great appreciated. Thanks and God bless. ♥
I ordered a Dell computer and monitor on Nov. 28, 2008 and the computer has been in production since then, and today is Dec. 3, 2008.
The estimated ship date is Dec. 10, 2008 and estimated arrival date is Dec. 15-17, 2008.
I personally don’t count on estimated stuff so if anyone’s ordered a computer recently can you help me out here?
I have a Dell computer, and am a bit of a YouTube , LiveLeak and myspace addict. To be able to share videos online- what things do I need to get for my computer? What would be compatable with a DELL? Do i need to get a camcorder, or is there a way i can get a mini recorder that attaches to my computer? My brother has a new Apple that seems to have a built in camera- is there somthing like that I can attach to my DELL?
I recently reformatted my hard-drives on my computers and re-installed windows. However, I have not been able to get my internet working properly on there. I did some searching online and it said to install the Ethernet drivers, which i have done. I went back and installed the chipset, ide controllers, and network drivers off of the dell support page, but am still unable to connect to the internet.
I’m trying to find out what the pins look like on the second processor socket on my Dell 690 workstation. When i looked at the socket it appears that all the pins have been bent in one direction. I just want to confirm that this is the way they are supposed to be or not. The socket does have a cover for it but i’m trying to figure out why they are bent that way. I don’t have any service tag for my computer so i can’t get any technical help from Dell. It seems they make such a big issue about it. Thanks.
I have a Dell Dimension 4550 desktop computer and now have no sound. I chatted with a Dell technician and he advised me to do a Dell PC Restore by Symantec. I understand that this is the “easy” way to go, but I stand a chance in losing a lot of information on the computer. Is there something else I could try instead? Downloading a driver temporily restored the sound, but when I restarted the computer, the same problem persisted. Everything else works well on my computer. I’d appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,
Bill
I have done it twice before, but I have forgotten what to do after I get into the first part of it. I can not afford to pay for dell Help, and Support. That is over $200.00 a year or $99.00 for a one time fix. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time, and help.
I forgot to mention that I do not have the cd that was supposed to come with my computer. I know about the f11, but what to do after that; I can’t remember. Once again thank you for your time, and advice.
I have a Dell computer that worked on my ethernet connection for about a week but it had to be set back to factory settings and now it cant find the Network interface card. The computer wasn’t new when I got it and is running on Windows XP Professional. How do I get it set back up to use my ethernet again?
I’m wanting a new Dell desktop but don’t want to spend over $800 on it. It’s basicly for internet and home uses. But I also wouldn’t mind installing and playing a few pc games on it. Do you think that it would be fast enough for it? I’m not looking for the best graphics or best computer for it. Just wondering if any new computer today is good for gaming.
I was wondering how I can get a Nvidia Geforce 8800 gt to work in my new Dell insipiron 530. I was about to buy it when i figured out my power supply couldn’t handle it. I am not good with computers at all and am really confused. Do i need to upgrade my PSU to use the Nvidia or is there an easier/more cost effective way? thanks
I have an old dell pc sitting around and I want to have some fun. Its a Pentium 3, with floppy, and stock parts and well, old, lol. Im not computer illiterate, just bios flashing illiterate. I know that dell locks all overclocking options. So is there a bios that is compatible with this dell mobo that will work on it?
I have a Dell 2300MP projector and a Dell Dimension 9200 desktop, now what are the correct steps to connecting these two. Also, what is the function key on the desktop that allows me to use the F keys? Is it obvious how little I know about this stuff? Thanks for a good reply.
Thanks David, but the keyboard I have doesn’t have a FN button (which is why I am puzzled).
I am not happy with Dell at all anymore. They seemed to have sold out to China.
We bought a whole new office full of Dell computers and a Dell Server. At around 10 months, we lost 2 hard drives. Their basic keyboards used to be nice, now they have CHINA’D them. The customer service sucks and it took them 1 1/2 months to get our order right.
Dell is not what they used to be.
The computer itself starts up but there’s nothing on the monitor. Previously, i adjusted the ram and put it back in. Took out the extra hard drive but put it back in. The yellow light would come on and a beeping noise was made. I readjusted the ram and the yellow light is still there but there is no beeping noise. I have no clue what to do.
I want to check my hard drive because it’s been making this loud whirring noise for the past couple of months. I have a Dell computer and it comes with a hard drive check system. But apparently you have to download a tool onto a floppy disk. Can anyone tell me the link to the tool?
Thanks.
For my birthday my dad is planning on splitting a dell with me. I keep on telling him that I do not want a dell. I want to explain to him why but i have no reason to tell him except the reputation. Instead of a dell this trust worthy guy offered me a man-built computer wich he claimed is good. He toled me the components he installed and i as well know it is a worthy computer. I don’t have alot of time since the computer is amazing a cheap so i want to explain in to him the best way i can to split this computer with me. Thanks for any answers given, i will truly appreciate them.
My son turned the computer off at the tower and when I turned it on the next day, it had a black screen with an error message about being shut down incorrectly, but gives the option to start with the last known work configuration. It switches over to the Dell startup screen and then goes right back to the error black screen. How can I fix this?
I am trying to install ubuntu on this machine, which is quite old, and I am not able to get into the BIOS to boot from CD Drive. When I boot the computer I see a blank screen and then briefly after there is one of those old “DELL” logos but there are no indications as to what key to hit to enter BIOS. Anybody have any ideas?
